Logic-i has been appointed to deliver critical project management and planning services for the Steel River Power project at Teesworks, one of the UK’s most ambitious industrial regeneration sites.
The Yarm-headquartered independent project management consultancy will play a key role over the next three to five years in overseeing the expansion of one of the UK’s largest private wire networks – a cornerstone in the transformation of the former Redcar steelworks site.
A joint venture between Steel River Energy Ltd. and North West Electricity Networks (UK) Ltd. (NWEN UK), the Steel River Power project represents an investment of more than £100 million. It aims to expand Teesworks’ private electricity distribution network, supporting the sustainable growth of new and existing industries while providing long-term electrical utility infrastructure for future developments.
Logic-i’s responsibilities include managing contract administration, ensuring rigorous oversight of contract performance, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of agreements and adjustments. By aligning every aspect with project objectives, Logic-i will help ensure the development remains on schedule and within budget.
Additionally, the consultancy will appoint a senior planning consultant to support the delivery of the Steel River Power masterplan. This role will be vital in coordinating the principal contractor, local sub-contractors, and supply chain partners, keeping schedules synchronised and ensuring key project milestones are met. The consultant will also proactively identify and mitigate potential challenges, helping to maintain a smooth and efficient development process.
Beyond its technical impact, the expansion of the Steel River Power network will bring significant local benefits, including the creation of hundreds of new jobs and major infrastructure improvements. This will further strengthen Teesworks’ position as a leading hub for green energy and industrial growth.
Stephen Humble, Director at Logic-i, commented:
"While Logic-i delivers projects globally, securing this contract is particularly meaningful as it allows us to contribute to a project of immense importance for Teesside and the wider North East region. This opportunity underscores our expertise in project management and marks a key milestone in our growth strategy. We look forward to building a successful partnership and supporting the future of Teesworks here in our home region."
Andy Laundon, Operations Director of Steel River Power Limited, added:
"Given the immense scale of our capital programme, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of the expansion project is paramount. We are therefore delighted to have engaged Logic-i to oversee the contractual performance of the principal contractor and local sub-contractors. Their proven expertise will be invaluable in facilitating wider development at Teesworks while upholding Steel River Power’s commitment to utilising local supply chain partners."
