Stockton-on-Tees acquisition increases Glacier Energy headcount to over 300.
Glacier Energy, a specialist provider of products, services, and engineered solutions for both renewable and conventional energy markets, has today announced the acquisition of Francis Brown, a long-established and well-respected fabrication business based in Teesside.
Founded in 1903, Francis Brown has established itself as a leader in the manufacture of pressure vessels and structural fabrications. This acquisition significantly enhances Glacier Energy’s UK manufacturing capabilities, particularly as the company prepares to launch its new range of hydrogen storage and distribution products.
The transaction was facilitated by FRP Advisory, which was appointed as the administrator of Francis Brown. The sale to Glacier Energy was completed as part of a pre-pack administration process.
As a result of this acquisition, Glacier Energy Group's headcount will exceed 300, with all Francis Brown employees transferring to Glacier Energy. This aligns with Glacier’s strategic growth plan, which aims to double the size of the group by 2028.
In response to strong customer demand, Glacier Energy will now establish a larger manufacturing division, operating across two key locations: Stockton-on-Tees and Rotherham. This expansion will support the company's strategic sustainable energy projects and meet increasing manufacturing requirements.
Francis Brown’s Directors, Jamie Brown and Duncan Warriner, will remain with the business, assuming senior roles within Glacier Energy’s manufacturing division.
Scott Martin, CEO of Glacier Energy, commented: “Francis Brown is a well-respected family business that aligns perfectly with our plans to increase our capacity and capabilities in Teesside as a strategic location. We look forward to integrating their excellent team to realise significant opportunities ahead and building on the strong relationships we have already established.
“Recent strategic investment from Averroes and BGF was secured to support Glacier Energy’s rapid growth, both organically and through strategic acquisitions. This news underlines positive progress, and we look forward to continuing this journey at pace.”
Jamie Brown of Francis Brown added: “Extensive discussions with Glacier Energy ahead of the acquisition highlighted how aligned we were—not only in terms of the potential opportunities ahead but also in terms of our respective cultures. I’m looking forward to this exciting next step.”
