Six prestigious engineering scholarships have been awarded to engineering students by the Institution of Civil Engineers Yorkshire and Humber.

The QUEST Technician and Quest Technician Plus Scholarships are given to high calibre students, studying for a civil engineering qualification, where they can expect to receive up to £1,500 to support their studies. The ICE awarded the scholarships to Ruth Watson, William Rose, Tim O’Connor, Amy Farrell, Joshua Clarke and Chris Meredith.

Ruth Watson, 20, works as a Civil Engineer Apprentice at Mott MacDonald, Will Rose, 18, works as a Civil Engineer Apprentice for Mott Macdonald Bentley in Leeds, Josh Clarke, 25, works as a CAD Technician for Mott Macdonald Bentley in Leeds.

Tim O’Connor, 20, works as an Asset Development Apprentice at Aone Plus, Amy Farrell, 34, works as a BIM Technician for Mott MacDonald Bentley in Leeds, and Chris Meredith, 26, works as a Senior Technician for Jacobs in Leeds.

Two types of scholarships are available, The Technician Scholarships for ICE members studying towards professional qualification as a Technician (EngTech MICE). The ICE recently added a further award to help members progress to Incorporated Engineer (IEng) - the Technician Plus Scholarship.

Students were presented with their scholarship and certificate at Leeds College of Building by the ICE’s director of membership Sean Harris, as part of National Apprentice Week.

Penny Marshall, Regional Director for ICE Yorkshire and Humber, said: “QUEST Scholarships are a sign of true excellence. Winners need to be both good leaders and team players; with ambition, determination and the ability to act and think independently.

“The 2019 scholars are all very talented and deserving winners. Their enthusiasm, determination and dedication clearly impressed the panel of judges. There’s no doubt they all have promising careers ahead of them.”
