Remote Working Tech Helps Businesses Beat the 'Beast from the East'

Odyssey Systems, the North East-based telecommunications specialist, has reported a spike in the use of its remote working technology as the region’s workers aim to defy the disruption caused by the extreme weather conditions.

With significant snowfall causing major issues on the region’s roads as a result of the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ weather system, many businesses have faced full or partial closures.

However, more than 300 business people across the region have been able to maintain their productivity through Odyssey’s remote working solutions. More than 25 percent of Odyssey’s 1,500 customers that have access to the system used the technology on Wednesday 28 February.

Odyssey’s service, which is delivered through a highly-secure data network enables companies to install dedicated phone handsets in their employees’ homes that are an extension of the company’s existing phone system. This enables them to make calls and receive them on the business’ number.

It also provides them with highly-secure access to their employer’s IT network.

Mike Odysseas, Managing Director of Odyssey Systems, said: “Productivity is one of the key challenges for the economy and issues like heavy snow and travel disruption can have a serious impact on business operations. However, technology can help overcome some of these issues and we have seen that in action as more of our clients are utilising our remote working solution during this period.

“It also reinforces the importance of having robust and superfast data infrastructure that enables this technology to be practically employed. More work needs to be done by government and across telecoms infrastructure providers to ensure that the network can keep up with these kind of solutions that can support productive working, whatever the weather.”
