NTG Group, a leading engineering company based in the North East, has underlined its dedication to professional development by recruiting an additional four apprentices who will commence their careers in engineering in September 2023.
This follows on from the recruitment of seven apprentices in 2022.
Two of the apprentices will join NTG Precision Engineering, while the other two will join ABS Precision, which was acquired by NTG in 2022.
The Group offers a comprehensive four-year Engineering Technician Apprenticeship programme, which provides an opportunity for trainees to acquire the necessary skills for a successful career in engineering as CNC Machinists and Quality Inspectors. There will also be a new opportunity this year to become a warehouse apprentice. Furthermore, NTG’s current expansion plans will create opportunities for permanent positions upon qualifying.
Engineering apprentices can expect to complete a year at college where they will gain foundation knowledge and competencies, followed by on-the-job hands-on experience in their second and third years to gain valuable exposure to various teams. At the end of their training, they will gain a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
To become an apprentice at NTG Group, applicants must be aged 16 or above and possess seven GCSEs, or equivalent, with Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths, Science, or a technical-based subject such as Engineering or Product Design. Additionally, having an Engineering and Manufacturing A-Level/BTEC or similar qualification is considered desirable.
North East-based NTG Group’s Teams Valley engineering hub has a 70-plus workforce, including nine apprentices at NTG and six at Benton-based ABS, which has a headcount of more than 40. The Group is currently seeking to recruit skilled engineers and increase its workforce by 20% per cent in the next 12-18 months.
Samantha Lamb, HR manager at NTG and ABS, said: “We have a very good track record of hiring apprentices who then go onto full-time employment with us. Our operations manager is a case in point, he started as an apprentice with us more than 30 years ago and is still with the business.
“We are always on the lookout for new talent, and we encourage enthusiastic and skilled engineers to apply to join our growing team.”
Mike Hutchinson, managing director of NTG Group, said: “We’ve trained many successful apprentices throughout the last 40 years and the latest intake will further demonstrate NTG's investment in its people.
“The company remains focused on creating high-value jobs that provide long-term career paths for its talented team members, and the fact that virtually all of our apprentices stay with NTG after their training is a testament to this commitment.”
