The head one of the North East’s largest specialist engineering recruiters, has welcomed the announcement that Nissan will build its new Qashqai and X-Trail models in Sunderland. This follows speculation that the firm would be hesitant to make further investments in the UK after the result of the EU referendum in June.
Richard Hogg, Managing Director of Jackson Hogg Recruitment, said: “This is fantastic news for the North East’s manufacturing sector. The Nissan plant in Sunderland is the most productive car factory in Europe and a lynchpin of the region’s economy. The plant not only directly provides thousands of professional and skilled jobs, but also thousands more in our region and further afield in companies in Nissan’s supply chain.
“This is an example of a business that came to the North East for its skills base and has had a hugely positive impact on the area. As a region we need to advertise the case for manufacturers to invest here, in terms of skills and cost-base, and also ensure we’re doing enough to train and educate the next generation of engineers.”
