NOF Energy, the UK business development organisation for the oil, gas, offshore renewables and power sectors, will, for the first time, highlight opportunities for companies to diversify into the midstream and downstream energy sectors at its national conference in March.
Leading Teesside-based companies from the downstream sector, PX Group and SABIC UK Petrochemicals, will both address delegates at Energy: A Balanced Future, which takes place on 7 and 8 March at Sage Gateshead.
Infrastructure solutions business PX Group has more than 25 years’ experience managing, operating and maintaining large industrial facilities in the power and energy sectors in the UK and regions such as Europe, Middle East and South America.
SABIC is one of the world’s largest petrochemicals manufacturers with UK operations at Port Clarence and Wilton International. At these sites it produces a range of chemical products including petrochemicals and polymers that are used in consumer and industrial products.
The two companies will highlight their current and upcoming projects, focusing on short and medium term opportunities for companies with transferable skills and services, which can be applied to their sectors.
Downstream oil & gas involves the refining, distribution and marketing of fuels recovered by the upstream offshore sector. Within the UK there are six operational crude oil refineries, 50 terminals and an extensive pipeline network carrying more than 30 million tonnes of fuel each year.
The sector, which currently employs more than 150,000 people, meets in the region of 85 percent of inland UK fuel demand, and collects about £36bilion in fuel duty and VAT each year for the Exchequer.
Energy: A Balanced Future will help inform companies currently active in complementary energy sectors, such as offshore oil & gas and nuclear, how they can diversify activities to enter the mid and downstream markets.
The national conference and exhibition, which is in its seventh year, provides a platform to debate the integral role of a technology-led supply chain in achieving efficient onshore and offshore operations in the changing economics of the international energy market.
Attended by around 500 energy sector professionals and more than 70 exhibitors, in 2016, the event features high calibre speakers and panellists from across the key energy sectors and offers important networking opportunities for supply chain businesses.
The 2017 conference and exhibition marks the first time the midstream and downstream sectors form a key part of the event.
It is part of the expanding remit of NOF Energy to support a growing number of energy industry sectors to increase market knowledge and new business opportunities for more than 450 member companies.
This is supported by its extensive global network of contacts and partnerships, including a portfolio of strategic partners, which has most recently been joined by Teesside-based Sembcorp Utilities UK.
George Rafferty, Chief Executive of NOF Energy, said: “Sectors including midstream and downstream will form an important part of the discussions at Energy: A Balanced Future and demonstrate to companies in the supply chain that their proven and effective products and services are applicable to this part of the energy industry.
“We are delighted such respected companies as PX Group and SABIC UK are keen to engage with delegates at the conference and the wider NOF Energy network. It is part of our commitment to ensuring the supply chain makes a significant contribution to enabling industry to deliver a balanced energy mix for future generations.”
