A North East geotechnical and ground engineering specialist, RWO, has strengthened its team with the appointment of a new senior executive and a graduate hire, reflecting the firm’s ongoing growth and increased demand for its services.
Neil Jones has joined RWO’s Geotechnical Department as Associate Director, based at the company’s Stokesley office. Alongside him is new recruit Daniel Tansley, who has been appointed as a Graduate Geologist.
With over 35 years of experience, Neil Jones, a chartered engineer and geologist, will oversee the design and preparation of geotechnical solutions for RWO’s diverse client base, which includes national housebuilders and developers. His responsibilities also extend to business development, technical report reviews, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Meanwhile, University of South Wales graduate Daniel Tansley will contribute to various projects under senior staff supervision. His tasks include geohazard assessments, desk studies, site walkovers, planning, supervising ground investigations, and preparing technical specifications and reports.
These strategic appointments follow a surge in demand for RWO’s geotechnical expertise, driven by regional and national commercial and residential developers progressing their investment and regeneration plans. Recent projects include collaborations with major housebuilders and developers such as Persimmon Homes North East, Barratt Homes, Taylor Wimpey, Gleeson Homes, Vistry (North East & Yorkshire), and York-based Mulgrave Properties. Additionally, the department has secured its first involvement in the Teesworks Freeport development and the data centre sector.
Currently employing a team of four engineers and office staff, with two more recruits joining either side of Christmas, the Geotechnical Department plans to expand further to support its growing business operations and technical services.
Chris Rudd, Department Head and Director, said: “We are rapidly building an experienced and dedicated geotechnical team, and Neil and Dan will be a big addition to this. Neil’s geotechnical design, industry experience, and proven mentoring skills make him an invaluable addition to our exceptional team. With comprehensive ground investigation skills and expertise, we look forward to his contributions in continuing to elevate our capabilities across the UK.”
By the end of 2024, the department anticipates securing £700,000 in sales growth from a standing start in late 2022, with a target of £1 million in revenues by 2026.
