KROMEK AWARDED £2 MILLION CONTRACT BY UK MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

Sedgefield-based Kromek, the pioneering North East developer of radiation and bio-detection technology, has been awarded a £2 million contract by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The contract, secured through a competitive tender process, will see Kromek supply state-of-the-art nuclear radiation detection equipment for military use, reinforcing its crucial role in supporting national defence.

Kromek will deliver its highly-sensitive handheld gamma and neutron detector, the D5 RIID, along with the newly launched Alpha Beta probe attachment and other related products. Launched in November 2023, the Alpha Beta probe significantly enhances the D5 RIID’s functionality, allowing for the detection of alpha and beta radiation, making it one of the most versatile handheld detectors available.

The contract will be fulfilled during Kromek’s current financial year, further cementing the company's long-established relationship with the UK MOD.

Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek, said: “We are delighted to have won this important contract from the MOD, a key strategic customer for Kromek. The rigorous tender process reflects the confidence in the strength of our solutions, and we are proud to provide the MOD with our latest technology, including the Alpha Beta probe, so soon after its launch.

"This contract further solidifies our contribution to the UK's national defence efforts, and we look forward to deepening our partnership with the MOD.”

The contract award underscores the innovative work happening in the North East, with Kromek continuing to play a vital role in both the local economy and national security. The company's advancements in radiation detection technology are bolstering the UK's ability to respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.
