Manchester based IDOM, a leading international engineering consultancy has been included in the NCE100 Companies 2018.
The consultancy has also been shortlisted for their expertise in three NCE award categories including; Innovation in Project Management, Excellence in Alternative Energy and Excellence in Water.
The NCE100 power list is designed to showcase truly outstanding civil engineering practices and recognises the most forward-thinking, innovative firms operating in civil engineering today.
IDOM was shortlisted in the Innovation in Project Management category for their work on the Riyadh Metro System, which forms part the Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), Saudi's largest public transport initiative.
IDOM is the main designer of the Metro's Line 3, which includes the preliminary and detailed design of 20 stations, two depots, 25.8km of viaducts, 11km of tunnels and more than 35km of street and road re-arrangements.

The consultancy has also been nominated in the Excellence in Water category, specifically for their work on the water supply system in Medellin, Colombia where an entire community had been at risk of being excluded from a fresh drinking water supply.

This project has had a positive impact on the lives of almost 12,000 families in the region, and has helped to support the sustainability of the territory in becoming capable of managing its own needs.
In the Excellence in Alternative Energy category, IDOM's work in the field of renewables has been recognized. Idom designed the Hydro-Wind Power Plant on El Hierro Island, located in Canary Islands, which aims to supply all the electrical energy for the island from renewable sources, guaranteeing the conservation of an area declared a World Biosphere Reserve.
The plant is estimated to save the consumption of 40,000 oil barrels, emission of 18,700 tons of CO2, 100 tons of SO2 and 400 tons of nitrogen oxides. In addition charging points for electric cars are also being installed with the aim of making the island completely free of fossil fuels.
