Hydrasun’s North East of England branch has supported Subsea Innovation on a unique engineering project to develop instrumentation systems and installation services for clamping technology to seal underwater pipelines in Perth, Australia.
In the event of pipeline failure or damage, the clamps are deployed to seal the pipe and prevent ingress of corroding sea water. The clamping system offers a flexible solution as it can be fitted to multiple pipe diameters.
The innovative design of the clamps, as produced by Subsea Innovation, enables the technology to incorporate multiple sizes of pipeline. After Subsea Innovation manufactured the equipment, Hydrasun focused on the hydraulic aspects of the clamps by providing installation services, flushing and pressure testing.
This support follows recent investment by Hydrasun in developing its hydraulic services capabilities as part of the company’s overall provision of integrated fluid transfer, fluid power and fluid control solutions to the oil and gas, renewable energy, OEM, marine and defence industries. The company has completed previous projects, using expertise in precision manufacturing and engineering technology & development, with industry giants including BP, Shell and Nexen.
Founded in 1985, Subsea Innovation is a world-renowned supplier of subsea equipment. The Darlington-based company designs and manufactures highly-sophisticated marine engineering solutions, including pipeline repair & recovery, offshore equipment handling, and subsea sealing systems.
Hydrasun and Subsea Innovation are both members of business development organisation, NOF Energy, which supports the supply chain across energy sectors to help identify new business opportunities.
Tony Reed, Sales Engineer at Hydrasun, said: “Hydrasun is pleased to be involved in such an innovative project which will be used on an international scale. The knowledge and experience of Hydrasun’s technicians and project engineers contributed to the quick and efficient delivery of the project.”
