NOF, the UK business development and membership organisation for the energy sector, is supporting Green Lithium’s supply chain development programme with a project briefing and networking event on 16th February.
Held at Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield, the event will highlight supply chain opportunities for the Green Lithium Teesside refinery, which is due to be operational in 2026.
Green Lithium is building the UK’s first large-scale lithium refinery at the PD Ports site in Teesside, Backed by the global commodities trading giant Trafigura, Green Lithium is a crucial part of a localised battery supply chain in the UK which will enable the transition to green energy.
Green Lithium’s facility will support the UK’s contribution to achieving a low carbon economy with a capacity to produce 50,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium chemicals, enough for one million electric vehicles.
It will use a world-leading, sustainable and low carbon refining process with a 75 percent lower carbon footprint than traditional refineries in existing markets.
Throughout the construction phase of the project the plant will generate 1,000 local jobs and, once operational, it will sustain 250 high-skilled jobs for local people.
Delegates at the event will be able hear from Green Lithium’s management team on the progress and timeline of the project, including its requirements from experienced and innovative suppliers.
They can also take part in a Q&A session with the Green Lithium team as well as network with other supply chain companies, including those who will be part of an exhibition showcase, where businesses will be highlighting their skills, products and services that are contributing to the energy transition.
The event, which is supported by diamond sponsor Practical Business Improvements and gold sponsor MGH Offshore, is NOF’s first networking lunch of 2023 and forms part of a comprehensive calendar of networking and meet the buyer events and conferences & exhibitions.
These events provide opportunities for supply chain companies to engage directly with operators and contractors from across the oil & gas, offshore wind, nuclear, hydrogen, Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) and associated energy transition sectors such as lithium production.
These events also support NOF’s strategy of helping its members secure new business by making targeted and valuable connections across the energy sector.
Joanne Leng MBE, chief executive of NOF, said: “This event will provide our members, partners and businesses from the wider supply chain the opportunity to hear first-hand Green Lithium’s plans for its site and how those with the right skills, products and services can contribute.
“We are proud to work in close collaboration with Green Lithium for what is the project’s first supply chain engagement event. High volume lithium refining in the UK will be an important component of the energy transition and Green Lithium is going to have a significant role to play in decarbonisation.”
Greg Bogie, Commercial Director at Green Lithium, said: “There are some real tangible benefits establishing Green Lithium’s first refinery on Teesside, such as the access to clean hydrogen gas, the abundance of offshore wind and a highly skilled workforce. In addition, the area, and the wider North East region has a strong network of supply chain companies that can support our business.
“We are pleased to be working with NOF to help us build a local supply chain and tap into the broad and innovative capabilities the area has to offer.”
