Darlington steelwork company expands global presence

Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd, the Darlington-based steelwork company, which recently returned to profit, has revealed it has more than doubled its export sales, which now account for 65.9 per cent of its turnover.

The company, which is being led by a new management team, has delivered a 112 per cent increase in turnover generated from new international sales in the financial year ending 31 December 2015, compared to 2014.

Its £33.7m worth of export sales are the culmination of large international projects, which will support further growth in 2016, including the expansion of its international sales team.

Employing almost 300 people directly, including 27 apprentices, and a portfolio of contractors, Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd has invested in new equipment and implemented new processes to support production improvements.

Chris Droogan, Managing Director of Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd, said: “We continue to experience increased demand from international markets for our skills, knowledge and British-engineered products, which are key factors in our return to profit.

“The new leadership team is planning to build upon its success; we’re currently in the process of expanding our international sales team to continue to grow our reach and service provision internationally.’
