Gas industry expert Stephen Dunn has been appointed as an ambassador for engineering and construction on the Institute of Directors’ (IoD) newly formed North East (South) branch.
Stephen, who is Compliance Director for Gateshead-based Commercial Maintenance Services UK Ltd (CMS), lives in the Bishop Auckland area, and is currently working towards achieving Chartered Director status.
He joined the business organisation in 2014 and is one of a number of ambassadors selected to represent and reflect the views of branch members. The role also ensures the IoD reflects local issues in its national policy.
The IoD recently divided the North East branch – one covering the north of the region centred on Tyneside and Wearside, with the North East (South) branch covering the Teesside, Darlington and County Durham area.
A time-served engineer, he has held various prestigious positions within the industry, including chairman of the North East Branch of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Engineering and the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers as well as being an active member of various professional institutes and working groups.
He regularly provides strategic advice and guidance to the gas industry at a national level and has contributed to the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group.
Stephen, who is also a qualified Ambulance Service Community First Responder, joined CMS 12 years ago as a service engineer before being promoted to Technical and Compliance Manager and was recently appointed Compliance Director.
The family-run company provides nationwide mechanical and electrical engineering services for commercial clients, including the design, supply, installation and maintenance of a wide-range of business-critical building systems, including heating, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, catering and refrigeration.
Karl Pemberton, managing director of Stockton-based Active Chartered Financial Planners, who is chairman of the North East (South) branch, said: “I’m delighted that Stephen has accepted the role of ambassador and I’m sure he will prove highly effective at representing and championing the views of our members.
“He is hugely respected within his profession at a national level and is also dedicated to supporting his local community.”
Stephen Dunn said: “I’m honoured to have been chosen as an ambassador and look forward to ensuring the views of local businesses are heard at the highest level.
“I’m proud of this region and passionate about inspiring its business and providing it with a strong and consistent voice.”
